The refugee camp "Umblem Mai", located on the border between Thailand and Myanmar, is in a critical situation due to the cessation of financing for aid. The United States, one of the largest donors in the world, has decided to distribute assistance through USAID, providing support totaling $223 million, as well as accounting for 31.6% of humanitarian assistance for the country.
Now refugees are forced to dig wells themselves due to the absence of the possibility to cover the costs for generators, which had previously provided water, having been supplied by the International Committee for the Rescue. Waste management services have also been stopped, and refugees, instead of turning to the indicated organizations for help, are forced to bury their waste themselves.
There is a serious reduction in the provision of assistance to refugees from Myanmar, their rare visits to volunteer doctors now lead to problems with access to medical care. Supported by the U.S. organizations, activities have been suspended, which has led to serious consequences for the health of the local population.
Unfortunately, not all refugees have the opportunity to independently pay for the necessary assistance. This leads to severe consequences for the health of those who have found themselves cut off from essential medical services. The work of many charitable organizations was abruptly halted as a result of the American government's decision to cease financing through USAID, which led to a complicated situation with medical assistance and reconstruction after protests in Myanmar.
